Services for Edward Burton “Bo” Claxton, Jr., 87, of Dublin, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Northview Cemetery. Dr. Cliff Morris will officiate.

A lifelong resident of Laurens County, Mr. Claxton was born on April 22, 1919 to the late Dr. Edward Burton Claxton and Irene Robertson Claxton. He was a graduate of Dublin High School and the University of Georgia with a B.S. Degree. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan.

A World War II veteran, he had served in the Thunderbolt (11th Armored) Division. He was a retired farmer and hospital administrator. He was a member of Dublin Rotary Club, Dublin Country Club, Dublin Elks Club, Laurens County Historical Society, was a charter member of Dublin Sportsman’s Club, Dublin Moose Club, Dublin Association of Fine Arts and the VFW.

He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, having joined October 23, 1929. He was predeceased by two sisters, Iris Claxton Eubanks (Alfred) and Ellen Claxton Bell (Dr. John). He died late Tuesday night, February 27, 2007.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Harriett Jones Claxton; a son, Edward Burton Claxton III (Tammi); a daughter, Paula Jones Claxton Bourassa (Scott); six grandchildren, Caroline and Chappell Claxton, Georgia Claire, Katie Belle, Abigail and Anna Scott Bourassa; two step-grandchildren, Candace and Cole Kimbell and a sister, Irene R. Claxton, all of Dublin; longtime friend, Pat McGirt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Music Ministry, 405 Bellevue Ave, Dublin, Ga., 31021.

Jay Chappell, Johnny Chappell, Cris Chappell, Ben Claxton, Jon Claxton and Eddie West will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home tonight from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.
